CHOPINIANA

Ballet Master Mikhail Fokine, creating the choreography of his romantic ballet „Chopiniana” (Les Sylphides), has tried to return a conditionality of classical ballet dance to its highest level of development.

Fokine describes his staging as a „reverie romantique” - „romantic reverie", revealing thatSylphides is his dream of poesy, melancholy and craving for something unattainable that offers a romantic ballet. Author confirms that art must be formed by emotions and feelings and not buy human though.

November 8, at Latvian National Opera, choreography of Mikhail Fokine performed by 23 students of Riga Choreography School and a ballet soloist Zigmārs Kirilko conjured a romantic atmosphere of Frederic Chopin’s music commemorating the 200th of composer.
